Man loses 100lbs on plant-based diet then opens a vegan restaurant

Doctors told father of three James McGee, from Texas, USA, there was not much hope for him to live for another year, but switching to a plant-based diet has turned his life around.

McGee was suffering from such serious and complicated health issues that he was taking 22 medications, and given little chance of recovery from alcohol-related damage to his liver and kidneys.

But he adopted a plant-based diet with his daughter, who was also suffering from eczema and psoriasis.

“We went home and got rid of everything,” he told Dallas News. “We didn’t want her doing it by herself.”

Since the change he has rapidly lost 100lbs and no longer needs to take any medication.

McGee has turned his affinity for vegan food into a career and founded Peace Love Eatz in Grow DeSoto Market Place.

“In the black community there’s a lot of diabetes. So a lot of people are starting to look at it, like, now I’ve got to do something,” he said.

“It’s sad that we are more reactive than proactive, but that comes from a long time of learning the wrong things. I want to be able to teach people about veganism at the same time.”

Peace Love Eatz features vegan smoothies, juices, burgers, tacos and a huge selection of plant-based options, which it features on its Instagram.
