Higgidy has introduced a plant based vegan roll that will sell in Waitrose from December 30.
UK based pie giant Higgidy has developed a plant-based product named Miso Mushroom in time for the world’s biggest one-month pledge to go vegan-Veganuary.
The meat-less rolls are made with chestnut and porcini mushrooms along with pearly barley, spring onion, miso, and soy. The mince is wrapped in a vegan pastry and topped with a ‘crispy kale seaweed crumb’.
The rolls priced at £2.60 for a pack of six will be available at Waitrose stores from December 30. You can also buy twin-packs at Boots for £1.
Sainsbury’s and Ocado will stock Higgidy’s vegan rolls from 1 January and 13 January respectively.
In a statement to The Grocer, Higgidy MD Mark Campbell said: “Although vegan may not be new, we’ve seen a real opportunity to develop a premium vegan roll that avoids meat substitutes, putting veggies front and centre.”
Higgidy also plans to roll out its other vegan recipe, a new limited-edition Vegan Aubergine & Spinach Masala Pie priced at £3.90. The savory pie is a vegan shortcrust pastry spiced with cumin, chilli and garam masala and sprinkled with a puffed rice, date and pumpkin seed crumb.
