Is Bridgerton’s Golda Rosheuvel vegan? Here’s what we know

“What we put into our bodies is a reflection of how we feel and if that can be a healthy way or a way that really impacts positively on our planet I think it can be joyful.”

Over the last few years, many celebrities have gone vegan for different reasons but there have been some from the likes of Joaquin Phoenix and Maggie Q  who have been leading plant-based lives for decades.

Another notable celebrity among their vegan ranks is actor Golda Rosheuvel.

This actor best known for her role as Queen Charlotte in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton has been a vegan for more than 15 years now.

In a video on Strong Black Lead, she said: “I became plant-based a thousand years ago it seems now.”

When and why did Rosheuvel go vegan?

While Rosheuvel has never disclosed her reasons to go vegan, she told The Outnet: “I was a vegan before it was cool to be vegan.”

She told Strong Black Lead:  “I think I was probably one of the first people to become plant-based.  There was a lot going on in my life and I was looking for one last thing to map out my future in a positive way.”

However, the actor, who was born in Guyana, before her family moved to the UK, said she was used to enjoying traditional meat-heavy meals with her family that celebrated her dual heritage.

“I used to love jerk chicken and rice,” she admitted to Tatler.

She added that growing up for Christmas her family would eat garlic pork, marinated for eight weeks because that was a South American tradition.

“I feel very lucky that I’ve had two worlds that have been united like that,” she further said.

Her favourite plant-based dishes now include spaghetti bolognese, dhansak and pizza.

“What we put into our bodies is a reflection of how we feel and if that can be a healthy way or a way that really impacts positively on our planet I think it can be joyful,” she added.

Rosheuvel’s views on sustainability and eco-fashion

Rosheuvel’s veganism extends beyond just food. “I’m really interested now in sustainability and fashion being sustainable,” she said.

However, she added: “I’m very kind of new to the veganism kind of fashion side.”

“I’m still trying to manage, I’m getting there. But fashion has always been late to the table I think in terms of sustainability and eco and all of that kind of stuff.”

While on the topic of sustainability, Rosheuvel revealed that although it is difficult she is making small changes to her wardrobe. “One of the things I’m trying to do at the moment is swap out all my plastic hangers for wooden hangers,” she said.

Moreover, for her role as Queen Charlotte, the Bridgerton fashion department has adopted a circular approach, which means that instead of a “brand new wardrobe,” Rosheuvel’s character will be “mixing and matching” items from the first season.

“So, there possibly could be some stuff that you’ve seen before but twisted in a different way, matched with something else,” she told The Outnet.

“There’s not like a brand-new wardrobe. I think as human beings we don’t understand that within our fashion that can be something that can be really championed you know, vintage or second-hand clothes have this little kind of stigma to them.”
