Activists have revealed harrowing treatment of horses, lambs and cows at a slaughterhouse in Spain.

Animal rights group Equalia revealed evidence from an investigation of a slaughterhouse in Caudete in the province of Albacete.

Activists are using the campaign to demand that CCTV cameras should be required in all slaughterhouses by law. They hope this will reduce incidents of abuse in the meat industry.

The shocking and graphic imagery shows a horse being stabbed in the neck after being moved into a stunning area. The horse can be seen thrashing around after being stabbed.

Animals can also be seen thrashing around as they hang upside down and bleed to death.

WARNING: The below video contains graphic imagery which viewers may find distressing

Footage shows lambs having their throats cut without being stunned beforehand, and cows being beaten with a metal stick.

Guillermo Moreno, the General Director of Equalia, said in a statement: “This is part of a campaign we are doing this year to ask the authorities to install CCTV cameras inside the slaughterhouse in order to prevent situations like this where a case of animal abuse is clearly seen.

“It is against the law, for example, to kill the lambs before them being stunned.

“We saw irregularities with animal welfare. The facilities are very old, and it is seen, for example, how the horse cannot fit in the stunning box and the workers had to tie it in the box.”

“In another moment, a cow can even be seen being hit in the eye.”

Activists explained that the slaughterhouse is owned by a private company, but the business has not been named.
