Vegan Haribo Sweets Now in Tesco

Share

The soft, jelly, fruit flavoured candy comes in a cute golden 11-inch-tall bear-shaped container. Most of the German confectionery company’s recipes use non vegetarian glazing agents- beeswax, beef or pork gelatin.  However, Haribo’s latest candy has no traces of animal ingredients, appeasing vegans.

The soft jelly sweets contain fruit juice concentrates from lemons, oranges, strawberries, and apples, as well as concentrates from black carrots, radishes, and safflower.

Demands for sweet treats with animal-free ingredients are rising as consumers are becoming more conscious and choosy; food based companies are keen to comply.  Mintel-a market research brand reported that there has been a 140 percent increase in vegan candy products since 2013.

Last year, Bonkers- the 80’s soft fruit chew hit was relaunched with a vegan avatar after the original non-vegan version went off the shelves 20 years ago.

Marks & Spencer released gelatin-free vegan gummy flamingos earlier this year, and Holland & Barrett markets vegan chocolate-covered marshmallows made by Belgian brand Mallow Puffs. You can choose from two flavors — Vanilla Mallow and Salted Caramel.

Recently, Asda- UK’s second- largest supermarket chain introduced low-calorie vegan jelly pots that are gelatin free. The supermarket brand had launched strawberry, orange, raspberry, and blackcurrant flavors of the jelly last year, and recently added mango, piña colada, and peach fizz flavors.

Additionally, Asda following Tesco also released vegan and gluten-free rocky road mini bites that include sweet cherries, sultanas and “gooey” marshmallows.
