Rihanna’s Fenty releases vegan versions of its signature silhouettes

Rihanna has refashioned her recent 2-20 fashion collection using vegan leather to release her first-ever Faux Leather Capsule.

The music mogul’s new Faux Leather Capsule comprises five-pieces, which include a slightly oversized shirt, a pair of high-waisted trousers with combat pockets, a drawstring hoodie, as well as the label’s iconic corset dress and skirt, all made from a leather alternative sourced from Italy that uses a blend of 50 percent polyurethane and 50 percent polyester with a soft cotton lining.

The collection available in two color hues “Jet Black” and “Coffee Latte” is said to be inspired by Irving Penn’s iconic series ‘Small Trades’ that documented workers in their work uniforms.

Describing the vegan collection, the brands writes: “Our faux leather capsule offers an alternative view of the 2-20 release in an innovative new fabric and elegant new color palette.

“The tough, protective connotations of leather and striking silhouettes of uniforms are combined with the soft, rippling faux leather to give a relaxed FENTY feel – this juxtaposition speaks to the FENTY DNA of contrasts, rebelliousness, and redefined luxury.”

The Faux Leather pieces range between $540 and $1,030 and are available to buy online.

Vegan Fashion

Rihanna’s new vegan leather capsule collection comes at a time when other premium fashion brands are also launching vegan threads.

Last month, Hugo Boss launched its first vegan men’s suit made from certified organic Italian linen as part of Hugo Boss’ Responsible Tailoring collection.

Around the same time Primark, the Irish fast-fashion giant became the first fashion house to receive the vegan certification by TÜV Rheinland for its clothing, shoes and carrier bags.
