The South African based restaurant chain Nando’s has announced a vegan version of its lip smacking and famous spicy sauce.

Although Nando’s is famous for its peri-peri laced meat meals, the brand is looking to appease a generation of foodies that look the other way.

The vegan dip will be available in both restaurants across the UK for 60p and on the shelves at Tesco supermarkets as 265g bottles for £1.90.

Made using potato protein, onion and lemon puree, cornflour, rapeseed oil, apple vinegar, and spices, Nando’s states the vegan version tastes just as good as the original with the creamy succulence of mayonnaise and the spiciness of PERi-PERi.

“The introduction of Vegan PERinaise will finally allow anyone opting for a plant-based meal to indulge in one of the brand’s most beloved condiments – whether in restaurant, or when creating the Nando’s experience at home!”, states the team at Nando’s.

Veganism rise

Veganism is being embraced globally for health, environmental and ethical reasons. According to research by Leatherhead Food Research, more than one-third of people in Britain eat vegetarian food once a week.

In another study published in the academic journal Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 96% of respondents said they would consider purchasing plant-based meat.

Veganuary

With the month-long vegan eating challenge just around the corner, many UK businesses have geared up to cater to the change in consumer demand.

Costa is set to launch an elaborate vegan menu comprising an all-day breakfast panini, rice pot, toastie, dessert and soups this January, according to an insiders report.

Earlier this month, Greggs dropped a teaser captioned: “This isn’t flake news…” hinting at new vegan products, as insiders swear that the bakery chain is set to introduce a vegan glazed ring donut and a vegan steak bake as part of its new vegan product range.

Frankie & Benny’s is also set to welcome Veganuary with 8 new vegan dishes featuring starters, mains and delectable desserts taking its count to 30 plant-based dishes on the menu.
