Burger King to launch 2 new vegan burgers

Share

Burger King has announced plans to launch two new vegan burgers across sites in Europe.

Chief executive of the fast food chain’s parent company Restaurant Brands, Jose Cil, has confirmed plans to introduce new plant-based options.

Burger King launched the Rebel Whopper and the Rebel Chicken King in Sweden this year, which was met with overwhelming demand.

Cil refused to provide details of the new burger offer which will be rolled out across the continent, but said an announcement is being prepared.

Burger King in Sweden has been working with meat alternative brand Vivera to create the Rebel products.

Impossible Whopper

The move into the European market follows Burger King’s launch of the Impossible Whopper across the US, where it is now available at all 7,200 stores

The Impossible Whopper features a burger patty from plant-based meat alternative company Impossible Foods.

The patty is made primarily from wheat protein, coconut oil, potato protein and heme – giving it a meaty taste and texture.

Impossible Foods has recently been valued at more than $2bn and has celebrity backing from the likes of Jay-Z, Serena Williams and Will.i.am.

Burger King also launched the Rebel Whopper, featuring a meatless patty from meat company Marfrig, in São Paulo, Brazil in September.
