Tobey Maguire often speaks about veganism and animal issues.
Tobey Maguire, the actor best known for playing Spider-Man in the Sam Raimi trilogy, is a vegan. He has been a vegetarian since 1992 and became a vegan in 2009.
A lifelong commitment to animal rights
Maguire’s decision to go vegan was motivated by his love for animals and his concern for the environment. He has spoken about his decision in several interviews, saying that he could no longer justify eating meat when he knew how animals were treated in factory farms.
“It’s never really been that hard for me,” Maguire said in a 2008 interview with Parade magazine. “I’ve never had any desire to eat meat. In fact, when I was a kid, I would have a really difficult time eating meat at all.”
Maguire is a longtime supporter of animal rights organizations such as the Farm Sanctuary and the Humane Society of the United States. He has also appeared in several campaigns to raise awareness about animal cruelty.
A vocal advocate for veganism
In addition to his personal commitment to veganism, Maguire is also an active advocate for the vegan lifestyle. He has spoken about the benefits of veganism in several interviews and on social media. He has also invested in several vegan businesses, including the vegan fast food restaurant Monty’s Good Burger.
“I feel like it’s the right thing to do for myself and for the planet,” Maguire said. “I think it’s important to be aware of where our food comes from and to make choices that are kind to animals and the environment.”
Other vegan Spider-Men
Maguire is not the only actor who has played Spider-Man and gone vegan.
Andrew Garfield, who played Spider-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man films, has also followed a vegan diet in the past. According to Vogue, Garfield went temporarily vegan while working on two physically demanding productions: Mel Gibson’s epic war movie Hacksaw Ridge, and Martin Scorsese’s Silence.
He told Vogue that going vegan changed his relationship with food. “I savor things more, and I’m far less gluttonous.
“Which I’m grateful for because I’m in my 30s, and it’s starting to show up in my body.”
The future of veganism
Maguire is just one of the many celebrities who have gone vegan in recent years. Actress Natalie Portman also claimed that Maguire influenced her to go vegan in 2008 after they starred in the movie Brothers together.
“I think veganism is the future,” Maguire said. “It’s the only way to ensure a sustainable future for our planet and for all of its inhabitants.”
Maguire’s vegan investments
In addition to his personal commitment to veganism, Maguire is also an active investor in several vegan businesses. In 2019, he invested in Monty’s Good Burger, a vegan fast-food restaurant chain with locations in Los Angeles and New York City.
He is also a co-founder of the vegan clothing company Loomstate, along with his friend, Michael Rempel. The company makes clothing from organic cotton and other sustainable materials.
Maguire has even invested in the vegan ice cream company Brave Robot. This San Francisco based-brand was founded in 2020 by Ryan Bethencourt. Brave Robot ice cream is made with precision fermentation, a process that uses microbes to create dairy-free milk proteins that are identical to those found in cow’s milk.
This process allows Brave Robot to create ice cream that tastes and feels like traditional ice cream but without dairy.
Brave Robot ice cream is available in a variety of flavors, including Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Mint Chip, and Salted Caramel. The company also offers a variety of dairy-free milk alternatives, including almond milk, oat milk, and cashew milk.
