The sequel will be co-directed by Stephanie Soechtig and Kristin Lazure.

The highly anticipated sequel to the iconic documentary ‘The Game Changers’ is finally underway.

The creators of the original film made an announcement after partnering with the athlete empowerment brand UNINTERRUPTED, founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

The sequel will be co-directed by Stephanie Soechtig and Kristin Lazure. They have also worked on Fed Up, Knock Down the House, The Devil We Know and Netflix’s forthcoming Poisoned.

It will be produced in collaboration with SpringHill Entertainment, a production company owned by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

“With The SpringHill Company’s unparalleled track record fusing athlete-led storytelling with progressive subject matter — plus Stephanie and Kristin’s expert ability to weave compelling personal narratives with hard-hitting investigative journalism — we couldn’t be more thrilled about this team,” James Wilks, producer and star of the film said in a statement.

The Game Changers

The original Game Changers was made by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, Chris Paul and Novak Djokovic.

It delves into how plant-based eating has become popular among athletes. The movie documents James Wilks, a former MMA fighter who travels the world and speaks to doctors about the medical benefits of veganism.

It features interviews with Kendrick Farris, a weightlifter who has broken two American records alongside many professional athletes who have prolonged their careers on a plant-based diet, such as weight-lifter Patrik Baboumian who flips over a car to prove you don’t need meat to build muscle.

The film has been watched by over 100 million people and is believed to have influenced many people to change their eating habits.

Data from Google trends at the time after “The Game Changers” debuted on Netflix showed that searches for “plant-based” went through the roof.

‘Unique opportunity’

The upcoming sequel will further the message of the first film. It will highlight how food choices impact not just individual well-being, but also larger concerns such as children’s health, food justice, and the environment.

Some of the original producers will be involved in this follow-up, which will feature famous athletes and entertainers discussing difficult food-related topics and sharing stories from several parts of the world.

“This is a unique opportunity to expand on the cultural conversation The Game Changers ignited around the fundamental role food can play in addressing some of the most critical issues of our time,” Philip Byron, Head of Unscripted & Docs at The SpringHill Company, said.

While the release date of the new film is yet to be announced, the original Game Changer is streaming on Netflix. Watch it again and recommend it to those you think should see it.
