International fast-food chain Carl’s Jr. has added Moving Mountains vegan burgers to 17 of its Spanish locations.
Carl’s Jr. has partnered with British brand Moving Mountains to create -Famous Star, a meat-free burger.
The burger is available across 17 locations in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.
The plant-based patty is made with a blend of pea protein, wheat protein, and mushrooms. It has been fortified with vitamin B12 and packs in 15 grams of protein.
The Famous star burger is also stuffed with pickles, onion, tomato, lettuce, cheese, and sauce. Customers can opt for a vegan version by omitting both cheese and sauce.
Simeon Van Der Molen, Moving Mountains founder said: “We are very proud to partner with a fast-food chain as prolific and forward-thinking as Carl’s Jr.
“Integrating a burger that is not only plant-based but also healthy, into a fast-food establishment is a significant step and is a real taste of what’s to come for the future of food,” in a statement.
“Our mission is to make truly inspiring flexitarian dining available to everyone using the latest food technology.
“With the Moving Mountains Famous Star Burger, consumers now have more innovative and high-quality plant-based options than ever before to satisfy meat cravings when eating out, without ever compromising on taste,” he continued.
Carl’s Jr.
The Famous Star vegan burger is another addition to the chain’s growing plant-based options.
Earlier, Carl’s Jr launched vegan Beyond Burgers in 21 locations in Canada. In January, it added the Beyond Famous Star (made with the Beyond Burger patty) to more than 1,000 locations in the United States.
Carl’s Jr. parent company CKE also plans to trial two items made with Beyond Meat: The Beyond Thickburger and Beyond Sausage on a biscuit in the coming days at select Hardee’s locations.
