Vegan cooking show New Day New Chef won two Taste Awards, including ‘Best Series Pilot’ and ‘Best Filmed at Home Episodes or Film’.

A vegan show has won two honors at the 12th Annual Taste Awards held virtually.

The annual Taste Awards (aka the TASTY Awards) are also known as the ‘Oscars’ of food, fashion, and lifestyle media. They are the highest awards for creators, producers, hosts, and directors of lifestyle programs, series, shows, and cinema.

New Day New Chef, which was nominated in eight categories, won a Taste Award for “Best Series Pilot” while its special New Day New Chef: Support and Feed Edition won for “Best Filmed at Home Episodes or Film.”

Both these awards are Viewer Choice Awards, reflecting the popularity of the series.

Vegan cooking is the ‘New Nouvelle Cuisine’

The New Day New Chef show debuted on streaming platform Amazon Prime in the US and UK and later premiered in Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

It also airs on public television stations around the nation.

The show is hosted by vegan author and journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell and produced through her 501 c-3 non-profit, the JaneUnChained News Network, in conjunction with Emmy-winning Executive Producer Eamonn McCrystal of Inspired.

Along with well-known vegan chefs, New Day New Chef featured vegan athletes, including NBA legend John Salley and Olympian Dotsie Bausch, bodybuilders, actors, singers and even a vegan accountant this season.

The show’s format also includes fun elements like the Blender Dance, which was created to break the monotony of cooking.

“We wanted to show that whipping up plant-based meals is a joyous experience. There’s an infinite variety of combos in veggies, legumes, grains, nuts and fruits. Today we can put an interesting vegan spin on every traditional dish. You might say vegan cooking is the New Nouvelle Cuisine,” Velez-Mitchell said in a statement.

New Day New Chef: Support and Feed Edition

The special New Day New Chef: Support and Feed Edition looked at the work of Maggie Baird, who founded the vegan charity earlier this year to help those ‘greatly impacted’ by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to support vegan restaurants in Los Angeles.

The charity has since expanded its presence to other cities – with volunteers now working in New York, Washington D.C, and Philadelphia.
