These bite-sized balls are delicious, nutritious, and easy to make. Here’s a traditional recipe for you.
Get these:
- 1 cup white sesame seeds (til)
- 1 cup jaggery or cane sugar
- 1/4 cup roasted peanuts, coarsely ground (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- Vegan ghee for greasing
- Chopped nuts for garnish (optional)
Do this:
- Dry roast the sesame seeds: Heat a pan over medium heat and add the sesame seeds. Dry roast them for a few minutes until they turn golden brown and become fragrant. Stir continuously to prevent burning. Once roasted, transfer them to a plate and let them cool.
- Prepare the jaggery syrup: In the same pan, add the jaggery or cane sugar along with a splash of water. Heat the mixture over medium heat until the jaggery or sugar dissolves completely, forming a syrup. Stir occasionally to ensure it doesn’t stick to the pan. If using jaggery, you can strain the syrup to remove any impurities.
- Mix the ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the roasted sesame seeds, ground peanuts (if using), and cardamom powder. Mix well to ensure they are evenly distributed.
- Form the ladoos: Gradually pour the warm jaggery syrup into the sesame seed mixture while it’s still hot. Mix everything together using a spoon or your hands. Allow the mixture to cool slightly until it’s comfortable to handle.
- Shape the ladoos: Grease your palms with a little ghee or oil to prevent sticking. Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a ball using gentle pressure. Repeat this process with the remaining mixture.
- Garnish and store: If desired, you can garnish the ladoos with chopped nuts like almonds or cashews. Place the ladoos on a plate or in an airtight container and let them cool completely. They will firm up as they cool.
Til Ladoos are now ready to be enjoyed! These sweet treats can be stored in an airtight container for up to a couple of weeks. Serve them as a delightful snack or offer them as a traditional dessert during festivals or special occasions. The rich nuttiness of sesame seeds combined with the sweetness of jaggery or sugar creates a delightful flavour in every bite.
