PETA has recognized the young trailblazers for their “commitment to veganism”.

The vegans of the world have more role models to look up to, as this year’s winners of the Most Beautiful Vegan Celebrities crown are Halle Bailey and Bella Ramsey. They join the ranks of past winners like Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Jhené Aiko, and Leona Lewis, as well as superstars Lenny Kravitz and Anitta, as announced by PETA.

The annual award goes out to celebrities whose lifestyles inspire others to try veganism, which PETA states “saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year; reduces their risk of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; and dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint.”

Ramsey’s animal advocacy

Bella Ramsey, best known for her role as Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones, is also a passionate vegan advocate. The 19-year-old English actor has regularly spoken publicly about her lifestyle and love of animals.

In 2018 she revealed her veganism in a post on Instagram. She posted an image of herself wearing a hat from animal rights group PETA and a ‘Plant Powered’ wristband.

The actor, who is set to star in the upcoming, highly anticipated sequel to the stop-motion animal rights classic Chicken Run said:  “I’m vegan primarily because I love animals.

 “But I also, like most of us, care about the planet. The environmental benefits of going vegan are so significant.”

Bailey’s commitment to veganism

Halle Bailey, one half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, is a committed vegan and has been open about it even before her fame.

Similar to her latest character Ariel in Little Mermaid, she believes that fish are friends, and refuses to eat seafood.

At this year’s Met Gala, when Halle was asked to choose hypothetically between eating Flounder or Sebastian. She was quick to reply, “I would not eat either of them! They’re my friends!”

Halle’s vegan journey started with her mother trying it out for a week, and soon she and her sister Chlöe decided to join in and never looked back.

In a previous interview with PETA, the sisters credited their diet for keeping their “voices in shape” and explained how eliminating dairy helps to limit extra mucus build-up.

‘Bright vegan future for Hollywood’

Lisa Lange is PETA’s senior vice president. She said: “Bella Ramsey and Halle Bailey remind everyone to save who you can save by keeping animals off your plate, both on land and under the sea.

 “PETA’s Most Beautiful Vegans of 2023 are superstars shining their light on a bright vegan future for Hollywood.”
