Denny’s has announced the launch of its first vegan burger featuring Beyond Meat’s patties.
The American diner-style chain clinched a deal with Beyond Meat to add plant-based burgers to its 180 Los Angeles-area locations starting this week with an anticipated nationwide rollout in 2020.
The new burger includes a vegan Beyond Meat patty served with tomatoes, onions, lettuce, pickles, American cheese, and All-American sauce on a multigrain bun. Customers can opt for the vegan version by omitting the cheese and sauce.
Denny’s Chief Brand Officer John Dillon said: “We could not be more excited to announce this game-changing partnership with Beyond Meat.
“As a company we strive to evolve with the tastes and demands of our customers and we knew finding a plant-based option that met our incredibly high-quality standards and taste expectations was critical in staying at the top of our game.
“The new Beyond Burger at Denny’s offers guests a great tasting burger, and we’re delighted to launch it in Los Angeles, and will be preparing for the national rollout in 2020.”
Beyond Meat’s Vice President of North America Sales Foodservice, Tim Smith said: “We’re working to make delicious plant-based meat as accessible as possible and believe the Denny’s Beyond Burger will be well-received by longtime fans and new guests alike.
“Through our partnership with Denny’s, we look forward to introducing more families to the nutritional and environmental benefits of consuming plant-based meat.”
The Beyond Burger launch marks the first vegan offering for the chain and Denny’s will also be the first full-service family dining chain to serve a plant-based protein option on its menu.
The move is in line with the brand’s recent makeover in a bid to appeal to a wider and more diverse customer base.
The company’s chief brand officer John Dillon said: “Are we bringing in a different type of consumer? That’s what we’ll be watching for,”
Beyond Meat
The California-based vegan meat brand Beyond Meat has seen phenomenal success after it launched its first product in 2013.
Over the past decade, the brand has extended its plant-based range and enjoys a global presence in around 35,000 locations in more than 20 countries.
The company’s mission in wanting to develop food that is environmentally friendly, has a lower carbon footprint and is nutritious and healthy without compromising on the taste has gained the brand considerable recognition.
The company’s founder, Ethan Brown states on his website: “At Beyond Meat, we started with simple questions. Why do you need an animal to create meat? Why can’t you build meat directly from plants? It turns out you can. So we did.
“We hope our plant-based meats allow you and your family to eat more, not less of the traditional dishes you love while feeling great about the health, sustainability and animal welfare benefits of plant protein. Together, we can truly bring exciting change to the plate – and beyond.”
Customers eager to try out Denny’s version of the Beyond Burger can order one for free with any beverage between 4 pm and 7 pm on 31st October at any of its Los Angeles area restaurants while supplies last.
