Dairy-free brand Vitalite has launched its first vegan cheese product in Asda stores.
Vitalite, famed for its vegan spread, is the latest brand to step in to the plant-based cheese market as demand increases.
The cheese block priced at £2.30 and slices priced at £2.50 are made using coconut oil with added calcium and vitamin B12.
Vitalite announced the variants will be available in selected Asda stores nationwide.
Speaking at the launch, Emilie Grundy, senior brand manager at parent company Saputo Dairy UK, said: “Consumers are increasingly switching to free-from diets and one of the foods they miss most when they go dairy-free is cheese.
“Our Vitalite dairy-free cheese alternative range has been specially formulated to ensure that it delivers on taste whilst performing very similarly to traditional cheese when cooked. We are confident our launch will appeal to both current dairy avoiders and those who are exploring the category for the first time.”
Growing market
Demand for vegan cheese has been steadily increasing over recent years.
According to a report by Market Research Future, non-dairy cheese has ‘witnessed substantial innovation in terms of new product launches along with research and development and collaboration’.
In a bid to meet growing demand, many dairy free brands and food retailers have released several variants of vegan cheese to capture the market.
Violife’s new mature cheddar product is set to hit Asda’s shelves by October 21.
UK dairy giant Applewood has also announced a new vegan cheese that will be available in Asda stores from this month.
Asda also launched its new affordable own brand vegan cheese range in two flavors- Blue Cheese and Double Gloucester with onion & chive alternative.
