“The meat and dairy industries are guzzling up our water supply and sending our planet down the drain.”

This month, a new provegan ad featuring Pamela Anderson has been spotted outside many Sioux Falls fast-food restaurants.

The billboard shows Anderson in a shower. It says “Meat and Dairy Farms Drain Half the Country’s Water.”

Animal rights charity PETA placed the board in advance of Earth Day on 22nd April.

The digital boards are up at the following locations near Subway, Taco Bell, Papa John’s, Wendy’s, Hardee’s, McDonald’s, Taco John’s, Five Guys, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Applebee’s, and many other eateries.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said: “The meat and dairy industries are guzzling up our water supply and sending our planet down the drain.

“PETA wants everyone to follow Pamela Anderson’s example and make a splash for animals and the environment by giving vegan meals a try.”

 Animal agriculture impacts

According to reports, animal agriculture in the US consumes around 34-76 trillion gallons annually.

A study published in Nature Sustainability showed that growing water-intensive crops for livestock raised for their flesh or milk consumes 56% of the water used in the country.

In addition, runoff from animal agriculture is also one of the leading causes of river and lake pollution.

In 2019,  Smithfield Foods’ Sioux Falls plant was found dumping illegal levels of ammonia along with other hazardous waste materials into the river.

PETA notes that going vegan spares animal suffering, reduces health risks, offsets the multitude of environmental issues, including deforestation, high amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, and waterbody pollution created by the animal agriculture industry.

Vegan advocate Anderson

This isn’t the first time celebrity activist Pamela Anderson has promoted the benefits of going vegan.

She regularly uses her massive platform to speak out on environmental issues, animal rights, and promote veganism.

Earlier, this year, the actor said that a vegan diet boosts sexual performance.

She wrote on Twitter and Instagram: “Vegans make better lovers.

“The cholesterol in meat, eggs, and dairy causes hardening of the arteries (and not much else).

“It slows blood flow to all the body’s organs, not just the heart. You can improve your overall health and increase stamina in the bedroom by going vegan.”
