“This fish-free offering is a way for us to stay true to our mission of inspiring the world to make a meaningful impact through the food we eat.”
This week, Veggie Grill teamed up with plant-based seafood maker Good Catch to add a new vegan tuna melt sandwich to its menu.
Plant-based restaurant Veggie Grill, which is known for its healthy and hearty bowls, burgers and sandwiches, will serve the tuna sandwich at all of its 37 locations nationwide.
The partnership also marks Good Catch’s foray into the restaurant industry. While a larger retail expansion is in the works, the alt sea-food company has experienced an exciting year of growth for the brand.
Earlier this year, Good Catch expanded its distribution footprint with a Tesco launch in the UK. In March, it partnered with Bumble Bee Foods and also announced the launch of its new line of frozen appetizers and entrees.
Good Catch was founded by chef brothers Chad and Derek Sarno with the aim of offering sustainable cruelty-free sea-food options whilst helping preserve the oceans’ natural resources.
Unlike real tuna, Good Catch’s product is free from mercury and toxins, and is also high in protein. It is also suitable for those who are allergic to shellfish.

Vegan tuna sandwich
The limited-edition sandwich, which will be available until the end of the year, contains Good Catch’s tuna made from a blend of six legumes (peas, chickpeas, lentils, soy, fava beans, and navy beans). According to the brand, the blend mimics the texture and flakiness of real seafood.
Other ingredients added to the griddled rye bread sandwich include diced onion, capers, celery, and fresh dill for a characteristic taste. It is also topped with vegan American cheese, pickles, and tomatoes.
‘Quality and innovation’
“At Good Catch, quality and innovation are a crucial part of our culinary journey. We’ve been working for years to bring our high quality, great tasting tuna product to the foodservice industry so that consumers nationwide can reimagine how to enjoy their favorite tuna dishes,” Chad Sarno said.
“We are excited to partner with Veggie Grill to offer this delicious plant-based Tuna Melt featuring our plant-based tuna product, and we look forward to an exciting few months ahead as we continue to expand our restaurant footprint.”
The brand even scooped the 2020 NEXTY award in the ‘Best New Meat or Dairy Alternative category’ for its plant-based crab cakes.
‘Comfort food favourite’
Commenting on the partnership, Kajsa Alger, VP food and beverage at Veggie Grill, said: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Good Catch and bring yet another delicious and innovative plant-based item to our menu.
“Tuna melts are a comfort food favorite for many people and this fish-free offering is a way for us to satisfy that craving, while staying true to our mission of inspiring the world to make a meaningful impact through the food we eat.”
