Life for a sheep on a wool farm can be torturous enough, but it seemed as though one unlucky animal’s days were numbered after she was caught in an electric fence.
Injuries to her leg were so bad that she was no longer of use to the industry and likely to be sent to slaughter.
But luckily, the Farm Sanctuary stepped in and managed to find a place for Holly. Initially rescuers thought the poor sheep would lose her entire leg, but they managed to save a section of it, allowing workers to attach a temporary leg made from a swimming pool noodle.
A video on the Sanctuary’s Twitter showed rescuers teaching her how to walk with the new leg.
Luckily the new leg is only temporary, and she will be made a new prosthetic soon to allow her to live out the rest of her days at the sanctuary in peace.
The Farm Sanctuary Tweeted: “RESCUED: Holly sheep was living on a wool farm when her leg got caught in an electric fence. Luckily, she was able to keep most of her leg & will receive a new prosthetic soon — but for now, she wears a temporary piece made from a pool noodle (!) to help her get around!”
The Farm Sanctuary is the biggest animal sanctuary in the US. It was founded to fight against abusive factory farm practices, and promotes veganism and animal welfare.
