Starbucks has added a new coconut milk-based drink to its growing range of plant milk beverages.
Starbucks’ new Iced Guava Passionfruit Drink is refreshingly pink and described as being a smooth and fruity, caffeine-free option.
The summer drink added across locations in the US combines “flavours of guava, passionfruit, pineapple and ginger, hand-shaken with coconut milk and ice.”
Previously, the international coffee giant unveiled two other coconut milk-based beverages: the Iced Pineapple Matcha and Iced Golden Ginger Drinks as part of its limited-time spring menu in March.
The brand is consciously working towards adding more plant-based milk varieties to its menu across the globe and at its recent annual shareholders’ meeting also addressed the demands to eliminate upcharges on vegan milk.
Starbucks currently charges up to 80 cents more for drinks made with dairy alternatives such as almond, soy, or coconut milk.
Responding to PETA’s question at the meeting, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Roz Brewer said: “While there’s no single factor in pricing decisions we expect costs to come down as the supply chain for plant-based options matures.
“And as the costs come down, we can pass this onto our customers. We will watch this carefully.”
90% open
Despite the pandemic, more than 90% of Starbuck outlets will open by early June with new measures and modified operations to follow social distancing norms.
While customers can either pick up their orders from a barista at the front door, through the drive-thru, or by walking up to the counter in a café in some locations, they are encouraged to order ahead and pay on the Starbucks app for a seamless experience. All seating areas remain closed within stores, and floor markers allow customers inside the premises to follow social distancing measures.
