‘It’s going to be a huge step forward in sustainability’
Adidas has partnered American sneaker designer and Round Two co-founder Sean Wotherspoon to launch a pair of vegan sneakers.
According to a release, the Superstar collaboration dubbed “Super Earth” sees Wotherspoon apply his “love of unique materials, rainbow color schemes, and environmentalism to the legacy silhouette.”
In an earlier interview, Wotherspoon said partnering Adidas would highlight his passion for sustainability and eco-friendly materials.
“It’s going to be a huge step forward in sustainability and a lot different than what you have seen from me in the past as far as materials,” Wotherspoon told Complex.
‘A more sustainable world’
Announcing the news on Instagram, Adidas wrote: “In our effort to support our sustainability mission to end plastic waste, we’ve partnered with sean_wotherspoon for SuperEarth.
“Committing together to a more sustainable world, one shoe at a time”
Vegan Super Earth
The Superstar created as an effort to end plastic waste, is also entirely free of animal-derived materials.
The shoe’s upper is a white, vegan leather with baby blue accents on the lacestays with a textured and perforated tongue that features Wotherspoon’s signature across a “Super Earth” logo. A natural cork insole and recycled rubber enhance the shoe’s comfort and efforts at a low carbon footprint.
However, the shoe’s most eye-catching feature is its embroidery of flowers and adidas’ Trefoil logo throughout the upper with embroidered threads hanging along the side.
‘Continuous innovation’
Staying true to its commitment to sustainability, a message printed on the tag on the inside of the tongue reads: “The truth is that this shoe alone will not save the planet. However, we challenged our creation process to find more sustainable solutions. Consider this a commitment for continuous innovation in the field of sustainability.”
The shoe, which will launch on August 29, will be available on Adidas’ site and select retailers.
