Starting this week, ASDA will become the first UK retailer to launch ambient vegan aisles in all of its 359 stores, the Grocer reports.

The discount supermarket is also launching hundred new ambient vegan products, which will be displayed in two bays entirely dedicated to plant-based products.

While one bay will stock savoury items including proteins, cooking sauces and condiments, the other will display snacks and sweet lines.

The decision follows Asda expanding its own-label, plant-based range including ready meals, snacks, pizzas and food-to-go options in January this year.

According to the Grocer, Asda will not only stock own-label products but also products from brands including Vego, Crimble, two exclusive Galaxy chocolate bars, and an exclusive Bosh falafel mix.

275% increase

The supermarket’s internal reports show that the demand for plant- based foods has risen dramatically over the last couple of years.  According to latest figures, the supermarket has witnessed a 275% increase in people looking for terms ‘vegan’ and ‘plant-based’ on its website and a recent survey it conducted showed that 17% of UK households were eating less meat or following a plant-based diet.

‘Save time and offer inspiration’

“We understand that customers want a quick and simple shopping experience, and this shouldn’t be restricted by dietary requirements,” said Asda buying manager Sarah Thornewill.

“By merchandising all our vegan items together, we hope to save customers time and offer inspiration, whether for those following a plant-based diet, or those looking to reduce their meat consumption.” 

Vegan Christmas range

Asda has also planned to launch its largest-ever vegan festive range this year.

Reports suggest the supermarket will be launching a whopping 48 delicious vegan products for Christmas including everything from delicious appetizers to centrepieces and scrumptious desserts.
