Iceland has launched its vegan Christmas dinner centrepiece to give chefs a bargain option for the most important meal of the year.
The No Turkey Christmas Dinner sets vegans back just £2.50, and will be available in Iceland stores and online from 18 November.
The festive highlight contains Iceland’s ‘No Turkey’ slices as well as chunks of butternut squash, bundles of kale, chopped chestnuts and wild mushrooms, all covered in a sage gravy.
Rise in demand
Supermarkets have upped their game yet again this year as demand for meat-free food has risen 987% in the past year, according to The Vegan Society.
Following the success of the retailer’s newly expanded vegan range, Neil Nugent, head chef at Iceland, created this festive feast.
“This year more and more people will be looking to include vegan and flexitarian dishes to their Christmas menu and it can be an extra pressure to make sure everyone has a festive meal they can enjoy,” he said.
“Creating a truly vegan Christmas meal is challenging for many people, especially with so few meat-free alternatives available.
‘Growing range’
“The No Turkey Christmas Dinner will join our growing vegan range, which has been a massive hit with our shoppers and we’re sure they will enjoy our latest addition.”
Following the successful launch of the No Bull Burger in February 2018, Iceland expanded its vegan range to include meat-free dishes and ingredients, including No Porkies Sausages, No Chick Fillets and No Bull Mince.
