‘Horlicks’ first-ever free-from formulation demonstrates that people can still enjoy their favourites without the use of dairy milk’
Horlicks has just launched a vegan version of its popular malted drink in the UK.
According to the brand, the “all malt no moo” drink has been released following increased demand for dairy-free Horlicks.
‘Keen to evolve’
The new vegan certified milkshake is sugar free and ‘bursting with a rich chocolatey taste’ along with a hint of caramel.
It contains 14 key vitamins and minerals and has been developed to cater not only to vegans, but also those who are lactose intolerant. It’s ideal for kids and adults, and can be enjoyed hot or cold.
According to the brand, trials with the new product showed that ‘it tastes particularly well with popular barista alternatives, creating the same, thick, creamy and warming hug in mug as the original favourite.’
In a statement sent to Totally Vegan Buzz, Michelle Younger, Marketing Manager at Horlicks, said: “We are keen to evolve the brand by building on our unique malty taste and heritage whilst offering new varieties which appeal to different tastes, formats and diets.”
‘A great tasting hot drink’ sans milk
Ericka Durgahee at the Vegan Society added: “We’re proud to register Horlicks’ first-ever free-from formulation with the Vegan Trademark. It’s brilliant to see a household brand demonstrating that dairy is not necessary to make a great tasting hot drink and that people can still enjoy their favourites without the use of dairy milk. We expect the vegan community to be as excited as we are!”
Priced at £3.49, the new Horlicks jar is available in Asda’s newly dedicated ambient vegan aisle.
The drink will sell on Amazon from Jan 2021.
Free-from options
Horlicks’ new drink joins several brands that have released vegan versions of their popular beverages following increased demand for free-from options.
After launching dairy-free drinks of its popular chocolate bars Galaxy and Bounty last year, confectionery giant Mars recently released a Mars flavored oat drink.
